Round 2: Knockhill, 17th May 2009
I
was dreading round 2 after continuously checking the weather forecast
on the week running up to it, praying for it to be dry! Even though
I know the track well, I was not looking forward to another wet
round after the events of round 1!
The practice on Saturday was wet.
The clear spells didn't last long enough to dry up the slippy track.
At least I was getting in some practice for what I was sure was
going to be a wet round 2.
Sunday morning came and I was pleasantly
surprised: blue skies!
The track was busy during the warm up, and after having to come
into the pits for a red flag I found it near impossible to get a
clear fast lap during the remainder of the session.
The practice was almost as bad, but I luckily managed to get a fast
lap in early on, putting me in 10th place (8th in class). As usual,
my time in practice was my fastest time of the day - 58.437!
Despite turning the boost up (to 1.6bar
and 500bhp), I failed to beat my practice time in either the qualifying
or the final, but still managed to get a time in the 58second region.
I think the tyres were past their best, and seemed to be going off
very quickly. Some suspension geometry changes and a re-think of
pressures needed!
My time in the final ( 58.887 ) was
good enough for 5th place in my class, 8th overall.
The 5th place finish came with 60points,
moving me up to 7th overall in the Club Class 4WD championship with
80points in total.
I'm going for a podium next!
