Round
4Report....
Super
Lap Scotland - The UK's newest lap-time challenge event.
Super
Lap Scotland, in association with RA Motorsport Developments,
held the 4th and Final round of its inaugural championship on
Sunday 1st September, with its second clockwise visit to Knockhill.
The rules and class structure are designed to equalise the most
powerful cars on the planet with even the most modest of road
cars. The aim of Super Lap Scotland is to offer competitive motorsport
action for everyone from the track day driver, the Hot Hatch driver
through to some of the most extreme cars around. It is a genuine
alternative to track days and a stepping stone to full blown circuit
racing.
The
format of the event sees all the cars share the track in two 20
minute practice sessions during the morning, before moving onto
the point scoring qualifying and final sessions. For the qualifying
sessions, a maximum of 5 cars at a time are released onto the
track in 10 second intervals for a warm-up lap followed by a two
"hot" laps and then a cool down lap whereby they try
to set their fastest time possible. Each car gets a minimum of
two qualifying runs, giving them the best opportunity to set a
class leading time.
Free
Practice 1
All
of the entered cars made it out for the first practice session
to get to grips with a cold and windy Knockhill. Differing techniques
used in practice were observed, with some drivers putting in 15
laps, and others doing sequences of slow, fast then slow to simulate
the super lap final and try to judge the settings needed for one
single hot lap later in the day. The top times were modest for
the Class A cars, but quick for B and C, with six cars under one
minute.

Practice 2
Cold
and windy again, with speeds on the back straight hampered by
the headwinds. Russ Paton led the way in Class A, recording 120+
mph at the speed trap just after the hairpin. Paton was 1 second
clear of Jason Ogg in the RA Motorsport prepared Impreza. Class
B was led by Wayne Sutherland in an EVO, again 1 second clear
of the next best David Long in the R400. Class C was much closer
with Bob MacKay continuing his good form from previous rounds.
Newcomer Najuad Rasoul in his screaming 300+bhp supercharged S2000
put in a good show with a low 59sec lap. Class D was a straight
battle for honours between Dave Herd and William Keith. These
two have been close all year, and were very close again in this
practice session. Craig McDowall did well to get close to Dave
Herd after some car issues.

Qualifying
Class
D saw William
Keith score maximum points, whilst Dave Herd went slower than
in FP2. Craig McDowall had issues in his Clio and completed a
very slow lap.
Class C was
a battle between Bob MacKay, John Wilson and Callum Dryburgh in
their 4WD saloons and Andrew Christie and Najuad Rasoul in their
RWD cars. Bob took P1 with a respectable 58.095 with Rasoul not
far behind, running a smooth 58.637 second lap.
Class B was
wide open with Alan Freeland not running. Wayne Sutherland took
full advantage and scored maximum qualifying points with a very
low 57 second lap, a full 1.5 seconds in front of David Long.
Class A featured
only two cars in this round. Russ
Paton in his HQ Garage EVO VI and Jason Ogg in his RA Motorsport
Impreza. The two were separated by a larger margin this time with
Russ recording a 54 second lap to Jason's 56 second lap.

Final
Improving conditions and a dry line forming. A perfect end to
a challenging day.
Class D -
William Keith had been on top most of the day and remained in
control of the final. P1, 2 seconds clear in class. Dave Herd
was running new suspension for round 4 and could have done with
more testing time to get to grips with the changes. Craig McDowall
was out after problems in Qualifying. William Keith won the Class
D title and joint second spot in the overall Super Lap Scotland
Championship. Dave Herd took 3rd in the overall Super Lap Scotland
Championship.
Class C -
Bob MaKay took top spot, and 3rd overall, giving him the Class
C title, and joint first in the overall Super Lap Scotland Championship.
Class B -
Wayne Sutherland took his first win in B at the final round. David
Long took 2nd. Alan Freeland won the Title and joint 1st in the
overall Super Lap Scotland Championship.
Class
A - Russ Paton had the upper hand all day, and didn't ease
off in the final. Despite Jason Ogg laying down a new P.B, Russ
still took top spot with just under a second between them. Charlie
Shaw took the class title, and joint second in the overall Super
Lap Scotland Championship.
