Motorsports UK have just issued a consultation on changes to Regulations which will affect the Categories that we run to in SLS.

https://www.motorsportuk.org/assets/actionsheetforconsultation-shc-finalv2.pdf

I've already posted my thoughts on National Speed events forum, so here's my thoughts:

It looks like an outbreak of clarity in the new proposals, a load of barriers and impediments have been addressed and removed. Some of these things Gordon and I have already been taking a pragmatic view on in SLS (and Scottish Speed events), but hopefully they will attract others in.

It is proposed that engine block changes allowed within Modified Category. This should help pull some new/returning cars to events. For Example a Corsa with a Red-Top, of an Escort with a Zetec/Duratec will be allowed and not forced into Sports Libre.

For Road Cars, suspension bushes, including top-mounts, can be changed. Standard and Road Cars need E-Marked tyres, so no problem if they are road-legal and not on List 1A or 1B.
Cats for BEK cars relaxed.
Holes in bodywork for Modified cars relaxed and clarified.

There's a couple of things which aren't too clear on a first and second read:
Standard Cars - Fireproof overalls only need to be Proban
Sports Libre and Racing Cars need to have FIA homologated Harnesses - To me, that means they need to be in-date.

Overall, this looks to be a positive move, in the right direction that many of us have been pushing for. It might not address all of our issues, but on these proposals, its progress.

I'll prepare a note of how we can incorporate this into SLS. It won't change the Power/Weight classes, but the Categories and associated Safety Requirements will become clearer for:

    Standard Cars - Showroom Spec
Road Cars - Road Legal, no bodywork modifications
Modified Cars - Need Roll cages, limited aero as at present
Sports Libre - ROPS, less restricted aero
Pro - Sports Libre with extreme aero?

Can I strongly suggest that we endorse these proposals and all make a point of replying in a positive manner to the consultation. If we don't then, we'll only have ourselves to blame when we start moaning that these a shortage of entries and the Regulations are confusing and restrictive.

Seems like some sensible steps to make things more 'open' to entry.

As you mentioned, a lot were just hurdles a lot of folk saw as pointless.

For SLS, I'd see there being sense in tweaking the Roadgoing Championship to Standard Car in an effort to attract more "Shopping/Showroom" entries
