So I already know Malcolm's advice and i kinda thought it would be this but some thoughts welcome. At race 3 there was an incident early on so initially no safety car and everything was normal but it was clear was going to be safety car.
So i get out of clarks and didn't initially see any flags but pegged it between two cars then saw railway marshall waving so i backed off and was waiting for dom (orange'y) to retake place...
Then two other cars steamrolled through clearly under flags so i took the 'nice' option of not taking places back. So after spoke to both people and they were totally unaware that they had done that so...
Doing what I did meant was two places down - lets just say you were in championship against someone slightly faster and it was down to the wire. Protest after and take easy route to penalise them or is that too sneaky...
Take the place back but then Dom was saying they were going mental in car - i was concerned i would overtake then they would do it back etc..
Been in this situation before and what did you do? Fairly short clip, ignore the missed gear change ahem before chicane and yes lifted off little too much at Duffus but wanted best line down as someone was on my ass. better start for me as my driving position arms give me 't-rex' reach to handbrake so cant start using that,

I’ve still not quite got my head around all the politics of single series racing...and purely my own thoughts...
But I’d much rather beat someone on the track than in the headmasters office
On that basis I’d try to retake the place under safety car. Fair enough the cars that passed you may not have realised it at the time, but they surely did eventually and so should concede the place. Again, from my perspective only, if I overtook someone and then realised it was a safety car, then that’s what I would do (much like you did) _________________ 2010 Time Attack AWD Club Challenge Champion

when its happened to me I always just take the space back in a controlled fashion on the first straight
But I'm always going fucking mental in the car when folk pass having not seen about 4 waved yellows with SC! Gaaah! _________________ Impreza Race Car, 1200kg, 480bhp - SLS/SMRC

andy, railway flaggie was me, the way it works is that we get a radio call for boards and flags and they go out both ways round the track, now I was on my own as was graeme on 8 and jim on 6. As soon as I saw 8's lights or flags I started waving whilst trying to get my board out. (ideally you have another body to hold the board so that when the call comes you can yell board). I was unable to operate my lights as the switch is at the hut and about 3 paces away and the priority is to get a flag waving on the call. I was not 100% about overtaking under my waved yellow but only having 2 hands i could not radio it in or write the report, again I only have 2 eyes and they cant be everywhere. What should have happened was that a post chief sees any overtaking and reports it but as i was on my own that did not happen as i was not 100% sure due to the heat of the moment
not making any excuses for myself as I was giving the job all i had _________________ Race marshal found at knockhill and anywhere lunatics crash

oh the railway point was more that in the video dom's car 100% obscures it but i could see it, regardless it was 100% clear on post on left before hairpin with flaggies and lighties. Would never criticise the orange army
Was more interesting what happens if people think they didnt pass and then they tried to retake - could be make for comedy value as they 100% didnt think had done it.
cheers y'all - all great learnings. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/andybalcairn/ to see how bad I drive!!! |

My advice is to deal with it after the race. Go to Race Control, with your footage. Let them sort it out. If you try to retake without the 'offenders' waving you past to acknowledge their mistake, then you may well be reported for overtaking under yellow/safety car.
There will be repeat offenders who ignore or simply don't look out for flags, putting Alan and others at risk. Let the Clerk sort it out. _________________ Renny

andy i knew i was putting the flag out to the middle of the pack but the front guys would have seen 8's lights, i know you werent being critical mate, i was merely explaining the situation.
plus with the flag point at 7 being so far off the track you almost have to move your head to the right to see me... _________________ Race marshal found at knockhill and anywhere lunatics crash

What confused me on Sunday was being so far back, you can't see the safety car. Even though it was known it was pulling in, all the marshal posts still had waved yellows and the SC board out. Got totally left behind on the re-start. _________________ MD Racing

yup, thats something that caught me out the first meetings in Minis. There is a lot more bunched up traffic and i was far back so couldnt see any SC lights.
I just has to always be ready in a low gear right on the tail of car infront - kinda from entry to clarks onwards
Minis - full time ON IT, even under safety car lol _________________ Impreza Race Car, 1200kg, 480bhp - SLS/SMRC

Aye, I think it's a mistake all new Mini drivers probably make once! _________________ MD Racing

waved yellow and board until the preceding post puts a waved green out, green flag goes out in race direction, (in reality once all cars have passed drop board and grab green with left hand, once you see green at preceding post go waved green). if you are unsure refer to the blue book, it is that thing that is steadying your dodgy coffee tables :p

No doubt a mistake at my end, just never been behind a safety car before when I can't see it! Another part of the learning curve for me! _________________ MD Racing
