Key safety requirements for the cars:
    Roll cage
Fire Extinguisher (doesn't need to be plumbed in, large hand held is fine),
    External cut-off for electrics
    In-date harnesses
Recovery points front and rear 60mm loop
    Glass headlights taped over
Rear Rain light (it is Knockhill Wink )

    Footwear must be fire resistant,
gloves suit and helmet as per SLS
    FHR (HANS)

Happy to answer any questions

I'm very interested in this.

Adam, "(total cost including pack and 1st years license is 325)", would this years license cover the whole of next years SLS season including any extra "races"?

What sort of numbers do you have just now? Any mention of discount yet? Its going to be tight to get the ARDS done and medical etc I think.

Cheers,
Neil M

Neil - The licence question would need to be directed to MSA. I've always got my licences early in the year so never had this situation. Good question though.

For general info - A race B licence would cover you for ALL of SLS classes (pro etc) and any SMRC races. Finish 6 races (B grade national races - 6 signatures) and you can upgrade to an A and have the option of some pretty decent series.... budget permitting.

Numbers - Its very early days - only announced at the weekend so unsure. I'll fire off an email to Rory (its a KH/KMSC thing) and ask about the numbers/costs.

I wouldnt expect a bumper grid. SLS was only 10-12 cars in its first year, and it takes a while for things to get going.

Sounds good Adam, would be ideal if we didn't have to pay for the whole years licence for one taster race.

This seems a great way to get into some door to door stuff. Even doing the SLS season next year with the proposed additional races and taking it from there. I'm keen to get an idea of what its like.

One thing I was thinking is it would be wise to have the extra races when there was a good few weeks gap in between rounds in case of damage to the cars.

I take it for the medical easiest would be contacting my GP?

Re: Dates - Again, in an ideal world yes, but I'm not sure what dates would work if not alongside SLS. It costs (lost revenue from hire etc) KH a fair whack to run an event, so it would need to be a large event, or run alongside something. At this point in time I can only see it working as a bonus to SLS. i.e its not going to be big enough to command its own headline. Could be possible to fit it in with other series' away round though Smile I guess we have to wait and see how it pans out.

Medical - Yup, I used my local GP, same as Fee. They were a bit lost when first asked so gave them a copy of the form they need to fill out/stamp (its all pretty run of the mill) to show them it isnt a ballache. Tell them a price or see what they come back with. Should still be around 70 but heard of someplaces trying for up to 130 odd. Again, the medical is like the ARDS test... you dont have to repeat it yearly until your older.

Yearly TRace B licence renewal is 60 - https://www.msauk.org/assets/2017competitionlicenceapplicationform.pdf

Medical form is section 3 of the above PDF

oh... and do your medical before you turn up for ARDS.

That way your licence is ready there and then - all stamped. If you wait you have to then send your medical form off then wait longer.

Awesome! Cheers for the info. Ill enquire about the medical and wait to hear back about the discount on the ARDS tests.

Our non race is 43, so I wonder if the msa would allow us to pay the 17 difference for the remainder of this year. Then we could use the year that's included with the ARDS for next season?

I've never known the MSA to be anything other than by the book. 'Computer says no'!

I have a feeling it'll be ARDS fee (which includes licence fee for the year 2017), and then a renewal of 60 early 2018 Sad

Give them a call and let me know what they say

I'd be up for this but a technicality may get in the way - spoke to Renny about it so we'll see what happens.

Looks like it has been postponed Sad For me the new 0.34 BHP per KG would need a Race A and would rule me out, unless a dispensation could be organised for SLS.

Quote:
Hi All - I recently announced that we were considering an SLS handicap format race at the last round, but we have decided to postpone the idea and create a series next year,
A number of you came to me and said yes, a few said yes for next year and a few would consider if their licence could be upgraded without too much cost. Well the good news is that we are actively contacting the MSA re the upgrade and hope to have some very good news on that front for the 2018 season.
So we will keep in touch on this as do see it as an attractive concept and some may want to adapt / change cars for 2018 so that they are compliant with both SLS and race requirements.
Thanks for all those that indicated interest in two weeks time, but we will have it all in place, with all FAQ's fully answered soon so that you can get on the grid, as well as the track, next year.
Yours in Sport
Stuart Gray
Chairman SLS

I'm a little dissapointed, but think its for the best. More time (2 weeks was tight!!) for folk to get sorted out, and hopefully they can work out the 'upgrade' option for SLS drivers - Non-Race B to Race B - with MSA Very Happy
