Shows just how powerful social media can be, and a little bit from a lot of folk goes a long way.

See that a few folk (F1 drivers and such like) have helped out in larger ways. Jenson Button 15000

Sad story, and hopefully he can overcome the loss of lower legs and continue to race. He's certainly got youth on his side. He should be able to afford the best care with the donations.

17!

344k now

Wouldnt be surprised to see it bursting through the half million mark before very long.

Great to see so many people getting behind it and offering what they can.

i saw the crash from the in car footage and it was one of these shout out and wince moments. It does make me kind of glad i race in a series of slow cars with big fat roll cages round me

Absolutely fuc**ing horrific accident and injuries for the driver. Real cringe and wince moment when watching it and it's something that anyone involved with any type of motorsport never wants to witness.

However, have to say it, the Just Giving fund doesn't sit comfortably with me although I totally understand how it's reached the incredible levels it has already.

Whats your thinking with this?

Only thought i had was how do they know that exact figure is what he needs? Very random figure. It depends what he does and wants to do after this accident. You probably need to set a goal amount i suppose for the page.

its a hulluva a lot of money going to a family you would have to assume is pretty well off in the first place (to be in F4).

I dont want to judge it though, its a crappy situation and wouldnt wish it on anyone.

I guess it also makes me think 'what about the others'?

I know this is an extreme case, freak accident, in a very public situation... but is it any different to a soldier loosing his legs in a road side bomb?

Hopefully the young lad will donate what he doesnt 'need' to others with injuries like his that werent fortunate enough (Im not meaning fortunate to lose legs) to have such a massive wave of publicity and social media behind them.

Its a tragic situation for anyone to lose their legs.

Still.... on a positive finish... i'm still amazed by the response. Thats 500k now. Gob smacked.

Theres a lot of people on twitter going on about "motorsport family" but in reality its a way for people to feel they are helping out in some way.

Whether the family is well off or not, or exactly how the money will be spent is not of massive relevance to me personally.

There are situations where I'm as against the crowd funder begging bowl being passed out as anyone else (see messrs Turbotoaster and Piggot for two recent examples). However this situation couldn't really possibly be any further from those.

Sometimes I think folk can be guilty of overanalysing things a bit, I'm guilty of it myself sometime. In this case though I just cannot see why anyone would grudge chipping in a bit of money towards rehabilitating or helping a 17 y/o guy who's just had his life turned upside down and changed forever. Take it at face value - even ignoring the financial aspect of it, its an astonishing show of support from the motorsport community.

No amount of money is going to undo what happened, but if this kinda support can in any way make the guys life easier and / or better moving forward then I'm all for it.

There was a motorbike racer lost his life during a race at Donington the week before. Sad
