Qualifying is scored, as well as setting the running order...

So if you can do a good lap after 10laps or so (tyres!) you can score well in Qualy.
If you cant cope with cold tyres you wont score well in the final

15pt for 1st in Qualy
25pt for 1st in Final

If you had just tootled round in the final you'd have scored 14 more.

Looking at the wheels - it doesnt look like its running heaps of camber.

I've got a full sequence of your trip to the gravel and barrier, plus another spin that I showed you at lunchtime. Popped past your spot after your off to check if you were OK, but you weren't around. Damage didn't look too bad and hoped you might make it out for the final.

Car sounds amazing BtW Smile

Cheers John, I saw the one before the contact, because the clams are so thin it looked worse than it was, had I had the spare splitters with me I could have got back out but the clam was flapping about and no amount of bodging would have sorted it as the rigidity comes from the splitter & undertray.

Anyway enough of me running out of talent, the times look good, presumably the finals had a proper dry line for the track? The swings across the day are staggering!

I presume there isn't a good "wet" tyre on the 1A /1B list? I saw some rainsports being used..

Sorry to see you off - I believe I was the next car behind you although didn't really see anything.

I think you may be finding out what I did last year - for light cars (and I would class your car as light) the 1B's are not that good. Getting them up to temperature in the SLS format is next to impossible. On Sunday it was impossible. Your tyres were never going to work at a track temperature of 4 C. All very well doing track days and bringing them up over several sessions, and many, many, laps, but the SLS is about those first few laps. The R888 are the best 1B I found, but still not as good as the soft 1 C tyres.

I popped over to say hello at the lunch break but you were catching 40 winks in the van so I left you to it! Smile

People who haven't driven the light powerful RWD stuff don't get how buttock clenchingly lairy they can be in conditions like Sunday, the met office forecast was dry as well!

The rainfall radar when I arrived at the track was a shock I have to say!

Here's a wee Vbox vid of how slippy it was, even on sticky Kumhos, just before you went off.

Guys - can you share any results/reports on other sites to try and get some more folk into the series? I have no doubt there will be more at Round 2 (a lot of folk missing at R1) but the more the merrier.

Lowell,

if you've got your Race license, you could run in Pro using List 1C tyres, like David's super sticky Kuhmos

I used to run the Khumo V70/700 in the Scottish sprints and Hills in K22 compound and they have far superior grip than an R888 in wet or dry conditions. Still can't work out why a Road legal tyre that I can fit to my Road car can't be used outwith Pro

to try and keep it fair within each class...

I.e libre regs were opened up to allow folk some aero... as requested. (TA regs)

If SLS still used the old rules/system ANYONE running to libre would need a Speed A or Race licence. Not many people have that. I cant remember the exact details, but you would also need Speed A / Race B for the 1C tyres.

So having 1A-1B for Classes A-F avoids allowing 1 or 2 folk (who have the correct licence) getting a huge advantage with different tyres.

I.e Class B

I have a suitable licence (Race National A) to run Libe (aero, 1C etc) but no one else in B does. Its not fair.

I can run in PRO if I want to use 1C tyres. Like David Long is doing.

As it currently stands ANYONE can run to 'libre' regs (minus the 1C tyres) in Classes A-F as long as they meet the safety requirements. This is using a National Non-Race B licence.

but I think the daft part of all of this is the MSA creating a 3rd tier of tires! I preferred when all the 1C tyres were included in 1B.

What is interesting (and backs up my reason for using them) was that I was quicker than all Class A cars in the final on Sunday. It would be fascinating to turn back time and do it again with 1B and see where I ended up. I'm guessing it was well worth 1-2, maybe 3, seconds on Sunday's cold damp track.

So from an enjoyment point of view, there really is no choice for me - but I'll take any points going Smile .
