will have a report and vids later but as someone else put it that's my racing cherry popped and for first time felt I was racing

so my back right was already a bit dented so no great shakes but that door has cracked :p That feeling when you are defending going into hairpin and *bam* someone uses you for breaking. Shame rear camera wasn't on Sad

unfortunately like a feckin idiot my best race was race 1 and I excitedly jumped out to take out SD card to view footage as I had great race, mega carnage first lap and spun avoiding someone coming back onto track. then that sinking feeling when noticed you didn't push SD card in properly Sad

Force me to reseat the OLED screen to attached to rev counter so that the 'no media detected' I couldn't actually miss. Having the vbox auto record and sync vid/data is me back in data heaven. Just need to upload the 3gb for the two races from work :p

2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUCs9_wpnGY
3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNCnSY98UXE which ends with a bang. I think taelor/martin having a go to few laps before was cause of what ultimately ended my race I think

Andy - is your gearbox particularly sticky or awkward?
Looking at those videos you seem to be consistently losing time on shifts, both up and down.

3rd gear at times has got a little stick in it (not as in small branch) and someone else mentioned that. Wow that fire extinguisher really is loose explains that weird noise...

Race report 21st August
Race 1 - i had decided this time i had to not wimp out at start so i could stay in a race and actually managed it. Annoyingly didnt plug in sd card as was hugely mental. We had the first race wipeout and then brandon walsh went off track and came back on backwards at Duffus and ended up facing wrong way http://www.power-images.co.uk/gallerys/2016/car%20racing/21-08-16/index.html#IPS_4237.JPG As i was coming down Duffus full tilt (thankfully saw it occur) I had the game of 'guess where the car will be'. I saw car starting to get a little bit of traction so decided to go right but had to avoid and then had a full on spin on mud, wheee http://www.power-images.co.uk/gallerys/2016/car%20racing/21-08-16/index.html#IPS_4239.JPG. This resulted in me being well back from everyone which was a shame

Race 2 - had a decent start and again managed to not throw away everything but reis managed to get round right and then i had to back out at chicane or else taelors car would have either eaten me or full on sausage kerb. Its all on video and was a fun race again where i felt bit more in race but not great times.

Race 3 - so i wasnt last - well until got banged off. horrid start (which guy to right did too) and wheelspin threw away 2 places straight away. Martin/Taelor had a coming together at hairpin so i managed to take advantage for a lap and a bit. I didnt have rear camera on but Martin was coming from quite far back and something occured i believe between Martin/Taelor and that resulted in Martin hitting into me at low speed twice. As i ended up in gravel when started to move off sounded like something bad was dragging but in reality car was fine.

Overall loved this weekend for first time and i just need to work on a few things for rest of year and then get car tidied up ready for following year. really need to do more trackdays for bum in seat time

Re: the gearshift - probably worth checking for play in the linkage (when mine gets awkward, it's always one of the linkage bolts working slightly loose) and maybe an oil change for good measure.

More generally, a good bit of advice is to practice faster changes and spend less time on the clutch - I can see other cars making progress on you up the straight with faster shifts.

Also, you'll find the car is more settled through the corners if you get your downshift done as early in the braking phase as possible (with a bit of H&T if necessary).

gear oil was changed to a thinner one and its definately got alot better. I didnt think my gear changes were that bad heh but let me check vbox to compare with malc in his mini as will show if its a drop. H&T is something i perhaps need to look into but for now my lines are still slightly wrong and i need to handle first 3 corners far better.

I'm not sure if i'd worry too much about lines in a racing situation. Qualy yes, and if clear track yes... but if following someone or you have someone close behind your bound to be a bit 'off line' at places.

One thing I know i'm guilt at doing is defending waaay too early and inviting the car behind to gain on me even more d/t my stupid lines!

indeed but i know my lines are off every time i watch unfortunately so when i am ahead and its a decent car length back and strictly dont have to defend i should still be able to drive it right. I brake too early for duffus, bleed off too much speed and then take a dumb line Surprised

There isnt a linkage to work loose on the MINI. Twin cables from the stick to the selectors on the box with sphericals as connections.

Less time on the clutch, absolutely not, quickest way to kill these boxes is rushing the shift. Yes, in the heat of the moment we're all guilty of the occasional flat shift 3rd to 4th but rushing 2nd - 3rd will cause problems, especially if 3rd's synchro is already slightly worn.
