Some help from others would be great here Can folk post info about series they are involved with? Malc, John, Struan, Blair etc
This is very much a WIP so would appreciate the help and any corrections where needed
Licence:
As a minimun you'll require a National B Race Licence. If you are new to racing you'll need to do an ARDS test before applying for the licence.
Steps:
- Purchase a 'Go Racing' pack from Knockhill - aprox £230 from memory
- Book a date for ARDS test at circuit, can be done when buying above pack.
- Book a medical for before the ARDS test and get Doc. to complete the medical part of the Licence Application supplied in the Go Racing Pack. Costs £50-100 depending on where you go. I just used my GP, and paid £75
- Attend ARDS. Chat with instructor, watch vid, answer multiple choice exam, easy drive out on track to prove you arent a spanner. instructor then signs your form.
- Licence application with stamped ARDS and medical form then get sent off - £40 for licence from memory
- Wait for the Race B licence
Links: From MSA Blue Book (included in Go Racing pack, paperback form)
Licence: http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/124_141_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Licences)_(H).pdf
Note: You need to renew your licence every year if you want to race in that year.
Car, Safety Prep:
As a minimum the car will need to meet MSA Blue Book Regulations - http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/142_149_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Vehicles)_(J).pdf
With the following Safety Features - http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/255_272_Specific_Regulations_for_Circuit_Racing_(Q).pdf
Car Prep
Kill Switch - 19.11.1. Vehicles must be equipped with an externally operated circuit breaker having positive ON-OFF positions clearly marked ( http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K8.1. An external circuit breaker is not mandatory on open cars of periods A to F, but is strongly recommended. The internal ignition cut-off and fuel pump isolation system(s) must be operable by the Driver when normally seated irrespective of whether a safety harness is worn or not.
Roll Cage - 19.14.1. Be fitted with a safety roll-over bar complying
with MSA requirements as specified in http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K except for vehicles of Periods A - E inclusive. It is strongly recommended that all vehicles be fitted with safety roll-over bars.
Harnesses - 19.14.2. Be fitted with currently FIA Homologated safety
harness to be worn at all times by the driver during training, practice and competition unless the vehicle was constructed in Periods A to E. See section 2.1 of http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf
Fire Extinguisher - 19.14.7. Vehicles of Periods A-F be equipped with a fire extinguisher in accordance with http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K 3.1.2(b). Other vehicles to be equipped with a fire extinguisher in accordance with K.3.1.2(a).
Seats - Section 2.2 of http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K
Rain Light - Section 5.1 of http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K
Transponder (can be hired but eventually you'll buy one)
The nationally required transponder is an AMB TranX 260 Direct Powered Transponder (For 2012 this transponder has been renamed the Mylaps Car Direct Power Personal Transponder), OR an AMB TranX 260 Rechargeable Transponder (For 2012 this transponder has been renamed the Mylaps Car Rechargeable Power Transponder). The Direct Powered Transponders are recommended because rechargeable transponders have a limited battery life.

General Safety - things that scrutes will pickup on
Fuel - http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/bluebooks/12/150_186_Common_Regulations_for_Competitors_(Safety)_(K).pdf Section K 14.1.2
(a) Fuel Tanks and Pipes – every effort should be made to isolate fuel tanks and pipes from the driver/passenger compartment. The risk of fuel spillage from accident damage can be reduced by use of bag type tanks or by coating metal tanks with GRP. Tanks should be located so that they are given maximum protection by the structure of the vehicle. Vents should be designed to avoid spillage if the vehicle becomes inverted.
(b) Fuel Fillers – these should be designed and located to reduce risk of damage. Filler caps should not be liable to open in the case of an accident. Simple screw caps are effective. The positive locking of the fuel filler caps is recommended. The filler pipe to the tank should be of minimum possible length and not protrude beyond the bodywork (6).

Jeez, good job Adam!
SMRC or other club membership is also required.
Also, minor point, but green flag lap now seems to have been dropped so formation lap is green flag lap.
There's also Raceiver and Fuel Sample requirements but you might want to leave them out until next regs are out as I can see them getting dropped.
Feel free to delete this post if you want to keep tidy. _________________ MD Racing

Thats a fair amount of effort there Adam, nice one.
I'm not sure anything I could do on Fiestas would compare to that, the above covers all the safety so I suppose if anyone wants to know anything I'm here to help. The 2012 ST Champion Dave Colville also pops in here from time to time. |

this keeps playing on my mind of "things to do before or what i will end up die from". What class would my car go under? its something like 1595cc turbocharged fwd.
If I sold my go kart that would pay for the ards and my trailer licence, so is very tempting. _________________ evo 5 track car |

Fire proof pants are not required for racing .
The seat does need to be in date but does need to have been fia approved
In date harness is mandatory along with fuel sample point (msa requirements)
£100 plumbed in ext kit , £20 fia cut off, £15 rain light, £75 sample point - All from jjc _________________ Motorsport is not a hobby - its a way of life ! |

B applies to any cars over 1600 just now or cars under 1600 but turbo charged. _________________ Andrew |

Fee could race in B if she removed Aero gubbins and used semi slicks. _________________ Impreza Race Car, 1200kg, 480bhp - SLS/SMRC
